Sunday September 07: Islamabad – Home

Apparently 2008 was the first year that Pakistan had introduced the concept of ‘summer time’ ie. moving the clocks forward an hour. We actually did not know about this till we got back to Islamabad as/and it had never been an issue at all throughout our trip. It raised its head on the last day as there was some debate as to whether the plane left at 10.00hrs ‘old time’ or ‘new time’; ie. was it really 11.00hrs? Re-inspection of our confirmed tickets did not help. A longer ‘bum on the seat’ at the airport beats the hell out of rushing for/ missing the plane so we opted for the conservative interpretation. Consequently we spent three hours at the airport instead of two – oh well.

Check-in and security all worked much more quickly and efficiently than we expected. No, the PIA Club Lounge at Islamabad was not up to say a BA or Virgin lounge, but it wasn’t at all bad. In fact, at Islamabad the same lounge was used by BA; the BA flight went before ours and the staff were most confused that we were not on it.

As noted at the start, we had a very pleasant flight and meal on the way back to Heathrow where we arrived ‘on time’. For some reason the ‘priority’ tags worked at Heathrow and both our cases were amongst the first dozen off.

We arrived home to an enormous pile of mail.
